    Default help re sealants pls

    hi can someone tell me re sealant types pls
    am using unibond bathroom sealant in shower area
    seen cheaper companies in screwfix-do i have to choose water resistant ones
    any other good brands and what type pls
    thx

    I meant what is it for.. walls.. as in priming or tanking or is it a stone sealant..?

    think you mean to use as a primer prior to fixing the tiles to the wall?

    if so, i would reccomend an acrylic/ resin based primer. I would suggest using one specific for this purpose such as Primer G made by Mapei. You can pick this up at Tile Giant or You wcan get it at Screwfix.

    Other Manufacturers such as BAL apd or sbr would be a good choice.

    think you can see from my posts as a newbie

    i bought unibond sealant from homebase for bathroom and kitchen which says mould resist,water repellant etc
    its 10 pounds for one sealant
    are there any cgeaper good alternatives?

    You mean a silicone sealant? Dow corning is great, tile giant stock mapei sealants and they are very good.

    £10 is normal in the diy sheds, buy cheap and it will go black within months.

    Id disagree on some of the cheaper ones Dom, I have trialed the Screwfix no-nonsense stuff and its pretty good for the money. I have had it in my ensuite shower for 3 and half years and its just starting to go black now. Not bad for under £2 a tube.

    All said DowCcorning is the premier of sealants

    Still like Everbuild 'Staywhite' with it's ten yr guarantee. get that for between 3.50 and 4.50 depending on quantity
