I have used tubbed addy and I have had a problem with my daughters kitchen floor where the addy wouldnt dry out it was cheap addy/grout. After being on this forum I have since read it was'nt something I had done wrong, I would definetly use powder from now on and another advantage is it is a lot cheaper.

Cheaper really has nothing to do with using powder over ready mixed, I am always extremely suspicious when I see a tiler with tubbed adhesive on his van, I will never understand why people use the stuff.

Are you equating that statement to tubbed adhesive?

the only disadvantage is you have to mix it, thats it!!

doesnt break down in the same way tubbed adhesive does and it sets faster (chemical reaction)...

I agree with your statement and as I said before reading the threads on hear I would be oblivious to the advantages of powdered addy and powered grout, and would of bought tubbed for ease of use and put my daughters tiled floor down to something I had done or not done, but when you realise the advantages and weigh up the disadvantage (mix it yourself) then you find it is also better economy I say win win

Ripped bags and bags getting wet Neale? I may have ripped a couple of bags whilst in the van but its extremely rare mate. The bags are double lined and the dust is not a problem with a mask although I don't use one.
Cant ever agree that tubbed has any advantage over powdered.

Cant ever agree that tubbed has any advantage over powdered.

I mean dust in the vehicle. Bags do have a tendancy to leak out powder too.
Always amuses me when people criticise ready mixed. Its ok when used within its limitations...of course that all depends on the brand.
Maybe if they started putting powder in tubs then the DIYers would get used to it.....come to think of it when i was in Australia we used to empty bags of grout into large tubs with lids .

I use powder, I dont mind using tubbed for small ceramic tiles (splashbacks) apart from that its powder all the way. Apart from all the points above, I just really like the way it spreads.

Paul, I hope you have only tiled small ceramics with tubbed up til now?
