Which plasterboard & how to fix to wall
So, I have a wall in bathroom. All its old plaster now removed. Wondering wether to dot & dab or batton it AND which plasterboard to use; moisture shield / vapourshield or straight forward normal plasterboard.
I'd prefer a moisture shield board but I've read that this must be battoned & not dot and dabbed, which puts me off. Wondered if anybody cud offer their advice on this?

Do you mean moisture resistant board or one with a vapor check board with the foil on the back

Re: Which plasterboard & how to fix to wall
hi, thanks mikethetile and whitebeam. its not that wet. one bath, no power shower etc. so normal plasterboard cud be.
I was going to use the moisture shield board. I then read the whickes website for gypsum based moisture shield board, but it advised not to d & d????? - only mechanical fix?? which board wud u rec' 4 d&d of this bathroom. and what's the difference?

Re: Which plasterboard & how to fix to wall
I would use a standard board and prime if you wish with a sbr, the moisture board has very low suction.
I have standard boards in my shower, like yourself I do not have a power shower but used bal epoxy for the grout.
I would use a powdered adhesive and a good grout, mapei ultracolour is a good one

Re: Which plasterboard & how to fix to wall
Thanks whitebeam. It turns out today infact that we are to be having the moisture shield. Not that pricey actually. But you mentioned that it has a low suction? how wud this affect my tiling then, is there anything i should be prepared for, am gonna be D&Ding them onto block work on friday....& i cant wait... oh and i have another wall thats skimmed and in good nick am currently using a bit of patching plaster and sanding to tile straight on top but wondered wether i could d&d plasterboard straight ontop of the skimmed surface but have read plasterboard should be dot and dabbed onto the brick or block work ideally...... whats ur oppinion on this one chap???

Re: Which plasterboard & how to fix to wall
Standard board is dot and dabbed, I would fix the board with battons on the wall just so to follow wickes advise.

Re: Which plasterboard & how to fix to wall
I don't prime before dot and dabbing plasterboard with adhesive, just damp the areas with water before fixing

Re: Which plasterboard & how to fix to wall
If its only the thickness of skim then it should be ok by now

Re: Which plasterboard & how to fix to wall
Should be ok, did you use a pva/sbr before you put the patching plaster onto the new skimmed wall
