I have a job which i have to tile on to tile the tiles are staying on because they are fixed with sand and cement and they are not comeing ... -
tile on wall tile
I have a job which i have to tile on to tile the tiles are staying on because they are fixed with sand and cement and they are not comeing off easy they are solid. The tiles are a glazed finish and just wanted some advice tips on the prep for this job.
tiles to be going over the top are 250x200 white ceramics with a mosaic border.
one area of the bathroom will be haveing a shower cubicle should i tank this corner of the room and what with as i know there are alot out there i could do with a roll on one for this area.

Is the tiles in the shower area fixed with sand/cement

Prime the tiles with something like PCI 303, this will give a surface to fix to.

yes the whole lot walls and floors its a really old bathroom

I would suger soap to remove any gunk that maybe on the tiles, then rough up the surface of the old tiles.
The primer above must be good but I've never used it

you may have a problem getting your waterproofing to stick to the existing tiles recommend you remove

removing not an option as this will will destroy the whole walls which will involve re boadring and cost and this is something he cant do.

I'm with jay, remove tiles, reboard etc, it may cost more, but that 's better than tiles falling on someone in the bath!!!!!!

In the ideal situation I agree take them off ..... but sometimes its not always possible, use a primer and bal white star you wont have a problem
I over tiled that way a couple of yrs ago After 6 mths took out bath and fitted a 1200 shower, had to take off 4 courses of the tiles I fixed tile on tile with white star it was hard work proved the point to me

bucket adhesive can take up to two weeks to dry tile on tile always best using a cement based adhesive imo
