+12 month old adhesive
Morning Gents
I keep popping on here for advice on my ensuite job.
I stripped out the room and bought tiles and all Bal products to do the job just over 12 months ago. On the reccomendations of this forum.
I am now trying to finish over the xmas period ( missus not happy).
I understand certain products have a shelf life. All have been kept dry and ventilated in the garage and looks ok , and not developed clumps.
Is it safe to use or do i have to buy new.
And will all other products be ok ie grout and additives?
Thanks
Ian

Re: +12 month old adhesive
Hi Ian, if it is a rapid set material then I wouldn't use it.

Re: +12 month old adhesive
Hi Ian, I'm basing this on what I have been told in training sessions here in the US...the rapid sets sold here in N America have a variety of additives to make them rapid sets, and supposedly the shelf lives of these chemicals are on the order of about 6 months in the best of circumstances. I have observed this first hand and won't use any rapid sets that are close to that 6 month time frame.
Maybe the products are different in the UK, so let's see what the guys say that are familiar with the rapid set that you have on hand.

Re: +12 month old adhesive
The shelf life is mostly for a product that prevents the adhesive causing cement dermatitus..The chromium (VI) preventitives ..that only has a short life span...so it should be fine if it has been kept dry etc..
Best way is to mix a small quantity and check the setting times and how hard it dries...but i have seen adhesives used about that age and they were fine..
