Screwing plasterboard
Hi all, my first post so go easy on me please. I have installed 12.5mm Aquapanel around my bath/shower. On one wall,I have had to screw and plug this direct to the wall as the door lining and window prevent it being fixed to batons. I now need to install 12.5mm plasterboard onto the same wall, to level up with the aquapanel for tiling. I have plugged and screwed the Aquapanel using the Aquapanel screws. My question is, is it feasible to screw and plug the plasterboard to the wall and which screws would be best. Thanks in advance.

Re: Screwing plasterboard
Thanks for the replies. I could use Aqua panel over the whole wall, but doesn't seem very cost effective as I have 4 square M of wall to cover. I have only Aquapaneled round the bath/shower area. Would not dot and dab bring out the plasterboard too much ?. Could I use 9.5mm plasterboard with 3mm adhesive behind it ?, I guess that is not enough adhesive. The tiles are 25 x 33 cm and I think are 8mm thick.

Re: Screwing plasterboard
9mm board will be ok with those dot n dab out to the same thickness as the aqua panel put loads of drywall addy on the substrate not too thick bang them home with a good straight edge and check with a level

Re: Screwing plasterboard
What is the wall underneath? I'm wondered why you needed to overboard in the 1st place!?! Are the walls really uneven, and if so, will you overcome all the unevenness by screwing the boards directly onto the wall?

Re: Screwing plasterboard
3mm behind may be a bit tight for the adhesive as it normally beds for 10mm, could you not use a tube adhesive to fix the board.

Re: Screwing plasterboard
The wall is plaster on top of brick. After removing the old tiles (and plaster) around the bath I could see the depth of the old plaster is about 10mm. I wanted to bring the Aqua panel out a bit so there was not so much chasing for the shower pipes behind the Aquapanel. The plaster on the same wall is not bad at all. I think after reading the replies I will Aquapanel the whole wall to give me a good, flat level surface to tile to.

Re: Screwing plasterboard
To late now but sometime in these situations if you have the room it is better to Gypline the walls and then screw your Aquapanel or board to this.

Re: Screwing plasterboard
It is good stuff except on site companies only want to pay the same per metre as lining a wall with 50mm stud and there is a lot more work in gypliner.

Re: Screwing plasterboard
Hi Rob, its a metal frame system that fixes to the wall and you fix the boards to this just google Gyplyner and the info is on the British Gypsum site.
