fitting underfloor heating too

Hi dan..
how thick is the ply..?
what substrate is under the ply..?
And i think Mapei is superior to bal...and a lot cheaper...![]()
the ply is screwed down onto of floorboards. ply is only 6mm thick (i know its supposed to be 18mm) but i have a french doors and if i had any higher it would be above door

6mm ply isn't stable enough IMHO...dan..
If you want to keep heights down then use Hardibacker250...6mm thick.![]()
its all under the kitchen units . is there a way around it? using a flexible adhesive

can you fix hardibacker to the exposed floor around the units? 6mm on top of your existing ply and then your tiles?

think it will be to heigh. when i dry fit a tile upto the doors its just below the step. think it will be pretty close once i use the adhesive too
priced the backer board up and it would cost a fortune to do that, not cheap!!
the floor is prety solid tho.
if i decide to leave the ply wood down what adhesive would be suitable for tiling on ply with underfloor heating and does it need sealing??

Put down thicker ply or backerboard and put a mat well where the doors are if you have a problem with the hight if you leave the ply down i would paint it because tiling it would be a waste of time and money as they would soon be up

ah i know what you mean about the mat well. didint read it properly!
probably do that and put thicker ply down.
so it needs sealing?
what adhesive and sealer do you reccomend?? (single part, flexible, rapid set)
ah i know what you mean about the mat well.
probably do that with thicker ply everywhere else!
so i need to use a sealer?
which adhesive and sealer do you reccomend ??(single part, rapid set, flexible) also having underfloor heating!

You could take up the 6mm ply then stick the 12mm ply on the floorboards with the correct tile adhesive and screw it down 300mm centers then tile on top make sure its a rapid flex adhesive putting it under the ply will help a little but use the right primer on the floorboards myself i would use backer board and don't forget to screw the floorboards down first you shouldn't need a sealer on the tiles unless they are polished and the ply you shouldn't but check with the adhesive manufactures maybe just the edges unless you are not going to stick the ply down then you would underneath and edges
wouldn`t halm to primer the ply anyway would it?
tiles are pre sealed polished anyway
so if i use a bal rapid flex or single part flex would be ok?
