    Default bumpy walls

Is it esential to level tiles on a bumpy wall and out of true. ie. butter the tiles real thick to acheive a flat wall and internal angles that are straight. or go with wall.

Some jobs a ive done in the past to a lot of adhesive to do this and the tiles were aleast off the wall by 20mm/25mm leaving pockets.

I do not consider myself a pro tiler, However, I'd like to improve on this situation.

    Can anyone put me right.

    Cheers guys.

ps, I mainly refurb bathroom, cloakrooms, and a few wetrooms.
is more addy better than a thin coat.??

You should really prep the walls if they are that far out...

What type of adhesive have you been using for this packing out of 20mm/25mm......?

Do you check your levels often, to see if they are true? are you using a long level as well, I once saw a guy using a dumpy level on each tile...........

I asked because not many adhesives are not designed to bed to that thickness..

By prep work,, i mean plumbing walls up by drylining them and making good any deviations great that 5mm or so..the flatter the walls beforehand the eaiser the tiling will be when trying to get flatness..

yep, I check with a 1m level and usually try to get the walls flat, with no lipping.

    Harder than i thought,

If using tiles larger than 300mm is it best to spread the addy on all over the wall in one go or do it by sections, bering in mind if rapid set, it would go off quite quick.

I'd done a job last year whereby the tiles were travatine 450x450 and needed to straighten up the tiles because the walls were not true.

hence loads of addy and then pockets of no addy where i'd buttered the tile and not the wall.

any thoughts on a better method.

You dont want a real heavy bed of adhesive on a wall anyway.you could use a bit of rapid set to straighten out the bumps prior to tiling but overboarding is a better job.
