    Default 400 x 300 Ceramin tiles

The tiles that I have just put up in my bathroom are 400 x 300 glazed ceramic tiles used with Wickes waterproof tub adhesive. After reading on other posts rule of thumb is 300 x 300 for tub adhesive, I am now a little concerned that mine will be ok?

    Any advice much appreciated.

as long as they have full coverage and allow the nesecary time to dry out they should be ok,your other alternative is to pull them of and start again?,at least you will know in future

Due to getting the time to grout, the tiles were up about a week before I grouted if that helps.

Also depends on how thick you used it..?...dispersion adhesives should be used no thicker than 3mm bed.

Also depends on how warm and dry the room is, hot and dry will dry adhesive quicker but I would still use powder with this size tile

    Ive used tubbed with 600 x 300 porcelain /10 mm trowel ,
As for drying time it took 2 weeks at over 30 deg during the days, something to think about .

A guy i've been doing bathrooms with lately uses tubbed for everything going on a wall. I've been trying to bring him round, but he won't have any of it... So on his jobs, i cut and pass the tiles, and i grout. Not willing to put the tiles on the wall to be honest, as i don't want any of the comeback. We've just put up 450x450 Porcelain, and he's been working this way for 20 odd years!

I'd cut loose as fast as you can Beanz! The guys a disaster in waiting.

The only tubbed I know that is stated safe for use with porcelain is Ardex D30; I'm not sure and would deffo not use on a tile above 250 x 200.

As you know, cement all the way!!

As for the working this way for 20 yrs, tile formats have steadily increased and become more popular over recent years and porcelain has become more popular in place of ceramic only in recent years. 20 years experience does not mean that he has bothered to keep up to date with adhesive and tile technology developments. I bet he only has £100k public liability too .

I can't afford to cut lose at the moment, besides he gets pretty decent work, the sort of quality jobs i want to be aiming for when i'm fully up and running. He also does all the plumbing etc. So i'm learning lots there.
Na his public liability is £2M i think lol!

To set my mind at rest I stuck a full left over tile that I had to a spare bit of plasterbaord that I had knocking around. I used a thicker bed than normal and left it a couple of days. Just pulled it off (with difficulty) it was certainly stuck, even in the middle so hopefully the ones on the wall should be ok.

    Thanks

Thanks for that . I never use ready mixed addy, so have very little knowledge of the stuff but just seem to remember something in the Ardex book. Obviously more manufacturers have found ways to incorporate a pocelbond within ready mixed now. Personally, I would always use cement for many reasons.
