Ultracolour Black
How black does the Ultracolour black stay?
I am using some black quartz tiles for a porch and don't want the grout to let them down if you know what I mean.
I have read that it is a pain, but I have used the Ultracolour Chocolate Brown without problems, is it that much different?
Cheers

Re: Ultracolour Black
i have used it, its a pain to clean.
and im my experience it does not fair well if it gets lots of water on it,
goes a kind of patchy grey.
in a dry area it stays black, still a pain to clean.

Re: Ultracolour Black
my vote is a nice 113 ultracolour as anthracite 114 does not like a lot of water either!

Re: Ultracolour Black
Ulatra colour plus has water drop effect and once dry i don't see why water should lighten it..???? ..
As long as you mix it properly and leave it to slake before using then no probs....too many fixers use too much water when washing off and that is the cause of patchy grout most of the time.
In the tile adhesive and grout forum there id a mixing guide for ultra colour plus grouts...follow that and you can't go wrong...

i agree with you dave on the mixing issue,
i have been using mapei for proberbly 10 years, that aside i tiled my back garden with slate, and grouted it with 114 ultracolour, and sealed it with stain stop at lithofins request.
it has gone patchy, i was told its because of the acids in the rainwater etc.
take this as you will, and i can post a photo, i will have to get the camera out though!

Re: Ultracolour Black
i have basically learned from experience, grey grout fairs better when rain water can / will be involved!
which is why for outside paths etc i use 113 cemento ultracolour,
and with this product i have never had a problem!

Re: Ultracolour Black
It may not be staining the grout as such but could be a limescale build up. which is always going to be a problem. You just don't notice it as much on the lighter colours.
Have you even wiped a black granite worktop down or even a black kitchen appliance. I suppose the answer would be to find a general limescale cleaner that isn't so harsh that it would attack the grout itself - I don't think there is many ways around it other than high maintenance

Re: Ultracolour Black
Well, it is indoors and dry so I think I will take a chance on the black.
Just think that the grey will let the tiles down and detract from their appearance.
Thanks for all the replies

Re: Ultracolour Black
I used the ultracolour chocolate brown on a big floor 2 wks ago.thought i was gonna get tortured. Textured porcelain! But it went lovely and turned out really well.the black is a bit of a pain though.i used it on two floors of black quartz tiles early in year.not just as dark as id like and it was mixed properly for sure.make sure not to wash it too quick!
