    Unhappy Advice required

We have finished tiling the walls of en-suite bathroom & have white tiles & a travertine stone strip with white grouting. we have just tiled to floor with traverine stone using 2 part flexible adhesive & have started to grout. Topps tiles said we needed a different grout than the flexible for the walls & sold us a superflex grout for up to 20mm in white. We started in one corner & when dry, it has come up a dirty beige/cream colour & adds no contrast to the tiles plus it does not match the travertine strip on the walls. Do I need something else or do you think it could be wrongly packaged.
Has anyone else used this in white? If so did it come up white when dry?

It was a dirty white with a tinge of blue when mixed but I thought it would ry white. this was 12 hours after applying the adhesive which was also meant to be white but looked greyish to me.

Sounding like contamination somewhere, either adhesive or bucket or ...... what ever it was, hard to say without being there at the time.

I don't think so, I suppose the tiles may have had something on them but they were straight out of the box. It didn't real;y look white when wet though. Perhaps I should mix a little & let it dry overnight, take it in to Topps?

To make brilliant white a tint of blue is added, could be a bad bag.

Thanks to everyone for the advice, from what you've said I think it must be faulty, I'll take it back & ask them to exchange for a different batch. If they won't I'll ring the custimer service.

Yes, i would mix a small quantity up and let it dry on a piece of tile. If the grout still dries the same colour as before it woould isolate problems with adhesives and contamination from the tiles.
Make sure teh bucket you mix with and all tools are clean and clean water.....You didnt mix the original grout with water used for cleaning the travertine floor did you ?

It does sound like it has picked up the dust/dirt on the travertine.

Did you wash the floor before grouting???

If youv'e grouted the tiles with this grout and you are not happy with the colour then it is going to be very difficult to remove from the joint if you leave it in now.
If it is grout that will go up to 20mm then it will dry extremely hard and fast.
Re-reading you thread the grout is dry but by how long?
As Dave suggests if wrongly bagged you should ensure a representative checks the grout as you may require more than a replacement bag!!!!!!!!

Hmmm. I think I will mix a fresh bit & compare. As we have only done a little area I was hoping to get some whiter grout & go over it with this when we grout the rest of the area. I intended to give it a bit of a scrub first to remove the surface if possible. I didn't know you had to wash the tiles first though!
The grout colour has come up very similar to the tiles so perhaps that is it. Thanks.

What colour was the floor adhesive, was it grey or white. What was the name of the floor adhesive?

It was a superflex grout from Topps for up to 20mm in white. Looks grey/white when I mixed a bit on it's own & left it to dry. I think the beige colour must come from the tiles so I will have to make sure I wash the rest thoroughly before I grout any more. Not impressed withthe shade for white though either.
