Evening
Sure one of you will know.
Using Mapei ultracolour for the first time and wanting to know how far it goes.
Looked on the packet and doesn't seem to give any guide.
The job is 8 1/2 sqm,2mm spacers used a 12mm notched trowel and tile size is 330x330.
Will my one 5kg bag be enough?

I'd get a spare one too Kev, it goes off pretty quick and might set in the pot before you've got it spread but on the whole and in perfect conditions I'd say one bag would be ample

Yes it will..no probs...

One bag will be loads. Just as long as you dont waste to much. It dose go off fast best on the market!

Kev, remember to mix exactly as it says on the bag, including the 5 mins standing time

am I getting my ultracolour mixed up with ultracolour plus?

Looking on the back of the packet and it says-FINISHING after 15-30 mins Ultracolour plus is no longer plastic and becomes opaque.
Not sure exactly what this means if anybody could simplify for us.

read the instruction above and you will be fine...it is just the water drop effect..

If you havent used it befor i'd mix in 2 or 3 batches as it does go off very quick, been using itmy self this week,for the first time, its wonerful stuff

Will print off and tape instuctions to the wash boy.

I think the instructions have changed or even the formula may have changed slightly as I used it yesterday and i'm sure the bag is different, the bag I had yesterday was a foil bag not plastic - it says to leave for 2-3 mins before re-mixing, has a pot life of 25-30 mins and now says mix 1.1L - 1.3L of water per 5kg instead of 1L per 5kg

It also mentions that different colours may need a variation in water

Ultracolour comes in Alu-packs and the plastic bags. I didn't realise there was a difference in instructions though

All ultra colour plus is NOW mixed with 1.1 to 1.3 ltrs of water.

It would of been nice if they had informed us of the change

2kg and 5 kg are made are not made in the same place, so instructions can differ....ring mapei and they will send you some leaflets on mixing to your store...


The leaflet is just to get the mixing and washing off correct as some peeps don't get it right and say it's patchy when it's down to incorrect mixing etc.

follow the guide and you cannot go wrong.

I'm a little confused Dave, I see the above post and I remember somebody saying this before (it might even have been you) but I can assure you both bags are 5kg and they have different instructions.

So has it changed? and are they filtering out the plastic bags which are old stock? or will both bags stay and the instructions both come inline with each other?

If i recall the convo with rep correct the foil bags are taking over...but i will double check when he is back from hols...

Update on the ultracolour grouting everything went very well.
Followed Daves posted instructions and any advice i could give would be to be as prepared as possible to give yourself more time.
Day before with missus digital cooking schales i weighed exactly 1kg of grout into 5 freezer bags.
Then bought a small paddle for my hand drill and a 2.5 ltr bowl to mix up in (have been using before a large paddle and bucket)
Put the instructions in a clear wallet to protect.
Day of grouting prepared everthing gave the tiles a good clean of any dust/cement.Got all tools needed out and placed where i was grouting-float,washboy,sponges,bucket of water.
Followed the instructions exactly and mixed 1kg of grout with 210ml of water(used an old babies bottle with the measurements on the side)
Everything happened as the instructions describe with the grout slackening after the second mix.
I found 1kg of mixed grout did just over 2m2 so knew exactly how much grout i'd need.
Followed Mapeis instructions and did no more than 2m2 at a time which meant i threw a little grout away each time.
At no time with doing 2m2 at a go did i sense the grout was going past it's best and hardly any grout was wasted.Still left with a 1kg freezer bag of grout.
Between the final wash down it enabled me to re clean everything for the next bag.
Result was spot on

I jus did a trav bathroom today with jasmine....spot on and set like a good'n for final clean.

Am looking forward to using Mapei Jasmine as on three occasions have used Bal limestone and not had the best results.
