Personally i wouldn't seal it....out door use is different to indoor use as in household stains...just leave it to the elements IMO...

But if you want a sheen then there is products you can use but won't last long as they will be a topical sealer to get that effect.

Also does the Aqua seal give a sheen effect or does it have a dull look to it?

Lithofin gives a sheen but I am with Dave on this one, it will not last, you will always be re-coating, it will have a nice weathered look to it in time if you leave it but its your choice

    Lithofin slate seal..?

    Some info on it>>
used indoors - several years with correct care; used outdoors - depending on the support and the weather, about 1 year. If deterioration occurs, reapply. However, this product is not particularly suited for external applications.

Is there a better sealant that you would recommend for outdoor slate use that would last longer?

Not for the finish you require....To get a sheen finish then it's a topical sealer and they don't wear well outside...

The only one I know that claims 15 years is Drytreat and thats if you get a accredited applicator
