    Default Shower & Floor Adhesive

    Hi Everyone,

Please could someone give me some advice on the following:

Which cement based adhesive to bond the Durabase wp matting to waterproof my shower area?

Do I need to prime the plasterboard?

I'm also going to use the Durabase to provide de-coupling on a T&G wooden floor. I'm going to over ply the T&G floor. Which cement based adhesive is best to bond the Durabase wp to the wooden floor?

Do I need to prime the plywood floor?

P.S I'm not trade and I would like not to be ripped off by diy centres. What should I expect to pay for each adhesive? the floor area is 4 meters squared and the shower is about 8 meters squared.

    Thanks in advance!!

    Hi there,
use a flexible adhesive in your shower area for your wp, Kerraquick if you can get it, Go to your tile supplier and get their advice as to what they stock, I use granfix up here,

Prime the plasterboard with an acrylic bond, use no-more ply on the t&g instead of plywood, its far superior and impervious to water plus quicker to fit, bond the edges, it can be glued and screwed down, you could also use hardi backer boards instead of ply, make sure t&g is sound, bond and fix with a flexible adhesive. I would not use ply anymore because of all the much better alternatives available.

As to what you will pay for your materials I really dont know, I buy in bulk so get big discounts, steer clear of DIY shops for adhesive, go to your local tile giant and say you are on the forums, you should get some discount.

An after thought, where is the plasterboard, is it in the shower area?

Hi Diamondtiling, thanks for the advice. I have a Tile Giant in Chichester. I will go and speak to them about the adhesive.

Yes the plasterboard will be in the shower and then I was going to waterproof it with the Durabase wp system from Wetdecs. I have not built the stud walls for the shower cubicle yet and I have not brought the ply for the floor either.

Would tile giant be able to supply the no-more ply or hardibacker boards?

Hi, I would not use plasterboard in a shower area, its not the good thing to do and you will be leaving yourself open to potential problems in the future, Use cement boards or backer boards, I always silicone all corners prior to fixing the wp, Tile Giant will be able to help you for all your needs, you could Pm matt at Tile Giant and I am sure he will help
