Anyone ever used the tubbed adhesive on 600/300 tiles?

Never never never, dont do it![]()

i never use it, only ever once and my trowel started rusting staight away ,that seemed wrong, then next day it still had not set, so never again![]()

What are the tiles ? where are they going?

600 X 300 tiles are far too large for tubbed adhesive mate, as tubbed addy requires air contact to dry out, and with that size of tile it could take weeks to fully dry out all the way through, if ever, go for bagged cement based adhesive instead.

ye bag it and binn it
You should use bagged, but i know a guy who uses tubbed gear for all walls (no matter what size tile!), and reckons he's never had a fail!?!?! Personally i wouldn't risk it, as i doubt your insurance would cover you if something was to go wrong.

If you are going to use tubbed gear on tiles that size make sure it is good, use something like BAL green star, especially if it is in an area such as a shower.
Just joking mate, do NOT even attempt it with a tub, simply not designed for it.
BAG

only use tubbed gear on splash backs now.
As all the other quality Tilers only powder adhesive for tile of this size
I'd like to think that, but know he gets a LOT of repeat work, and has a really good rep locally!?! He's been fitting bathrooms for 20 years... Maybe he's just extremely lucky, i don't know!?!
I grouted a job for him last week, and have got other work with the customer, so hopefully i'll find out if the 600x600 Porcelain tiles fall off the walls. I know i wouldn't want to be under one if it does go!![]()

that sounds like a recipie for disaster to me
Same here mate, but until something goes wrong he's gonna keep doing it the way he's always done it...![]()
Had a feeling I'd get that response bagged it is then.![]()
one of my suppliers has a tubbed addy that is supposedly suitable for large format tiles, it might be "technik",I passed by it and got my usual powder addy![]()

I not a tiler but what is wrong with tubbed. I done several bathrooms and kitchens with it (usually the white stuff from Wickes or B&Q) and never had an issue. I not the greates tiler in the world but nothing has fell off. Also used nagged addys with the same result. I guess you guys use bagged because of quantity and ease - tubbed is heavy going - or can I expect my bathroom tiles to fall off any time soon......![]()
so at wot point do you go from using tubbed to using baged ? ie wot size tile ? wot if you wher doing a full bathrom and all the walls where plaster boarded , and the tiles where 10 by 8 inch ceramics, would you use baged for that?
I go by this, any thing over 300 x 300 and the walls are not flat, I use powder gear. Tubbed gear can only be spead with a 6mm trowel, bedding down to 3-4 mm, so if you have a wonkie wall, the tubbed gear will never dry.

A kitchen splashback can usually be stuck and grouted in a day (unless an unusually large kitchen), so has to be bagged rapid set.
I get a much better yield, and therefore coverage, from a standard set bagged addy over tubbed so always prefer to use powdered for bathroom walls too. You can pack the odd tile if you have to, which you can't do with tubbed, too. Better value for money, more flexible and versatile product, so I, personally, don't see a reason to bother with tubs.

iam learning far to much on this site ha ha !! exellent stuff cheers !![]()

Ah I see. Is that perchance why some threads on here say that addy not gone off. If you grout your tubbed addy tiles too quickly they have not get enough air contact to set? That's probably why I never has issues cos I am painfully slow at tiling.
Blimey - I having a few beers tonight and resorting to medieval english - perchance......![]()
I think I posted "perchance" the other night in chit chat box, like your good self, I'd had a feew scoops![]()
