News Mapei waterproofing helps launch LC - Swansea Leisure Centre
Mapei products were specified for the refurbishment of the Swansea Leisure Centre; re-launched as LC when The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh opened the site in 2008. N C Ceramics Ltd, on behalf of contractors Laing O’Rourke installed approximately 4 million Domus glazed ceramic tiles to all new pool areas using Mapei adhesives, grouts, sealants and waterproofing systems.
A system of Mapei waterproofing products was specified, in order to prepare the pool walls and floors to protect against the potentially harsh and aggressive conditions characteristic of leisure-based projects.
All pool and shower area walls were rendered using Mapei’s NIVOPLAN levelling mortar, which is fast curing, therefore requiring less time before tiling. Cracks within the concrete or screeds were sealed with, Mapei Eporip solvent free epoxy adhesive.
Mapei’s MAPELASTIC, a two-part flexible cementitious membrane, was used to waterproof the pool walls and floors. Domus Ceramic Pool tiles were installed, after only 5 days, using Mapei’s KERAFLEX, a high strength cementitious tile adhesive with no vertical slip and extended open time.
The finish was achieved using ULTRACOLOR PLUS flexible fast setting and drying cementitious coloured grout, with Bioblock® anti-mould and DropEffect® water-resistant technologies; making it ideal for leisure centre projects.
Mapecoat I 24, epoxy paint was used to form a waterproof and vapour-proof finish to areas without a tiled finish.
Mapei is the world’s largest manufacturer of adhesives, sealants and chemical products for building. With over 70 years experience, Mapei is a specialist in the production of quality products for the installation of all types of wall and floor coverings, and has a vast range of admixtures and repair products for concrete and building materials.
For further information on Mapei products call 0121 508 6970 or visit MAPEI.
