Mapei praised at St Dunstan’s Church
Products from the extensive Mapei range were specified for the installation of both ceramic and porcelain tiles within St Dunstan’s Church in Woking. Specialist Architects, Rooney & McConville of Belfast provided an architecturally modern design for the church.
A system of Mapei products including TOPCEM PRONTO screed, LATEXPLAN levelling compound, KERAQUICK and ULTRAMASTIC III adhesives and KERACOLOR FF grout was selected to prepare substrates and apply and finish aesthetically cut Burlington Slate to the church aisle, pulpit and font areas, high quality Jerusalem Stone to the remaining floor areas and ceramic wall tiles in kitchen and bathroom areas. The tiling contract was expertly undertaken by Stone & Ceramic Ltd, London.
TOPCEM PRONTO fast-track screed with PLANICRETE additive was used to produce a bonding coat to the existing floor substrates. Ready mixed TOPCEM PRONTO is particularly suitable for site work where there is limited space and restricted access and was the ideal selection for the religious building.
To provide a perfectly flat and even substrate for the slate and porcelain finishes LATEXPLAN self-levelling compound was then applied over the screed. Low odour and protein-free with high-compressive strength LATEXPLAN was particularly suitable for providing a healthier environment for the installer and a strong substrate to accommodate the considerable amount of foot traffic anticipated
The Burlington Slate and Jerusalem Stone required a high performance, flexible adhesive. Mapei KERAQUICK C2FTE S1 adhesive was selected for its flexible, rapid-setting and multi-purpose advantages. Tiles joints were then finished with KERACOLOR FF water and dirt-repellent grout, now available in 18 colours.
For the kitchen and bathroom areas ULTRAMASTIC III D2T adhesive was chosen to install a metre high border of mushroom mink tiles. The ready-to-use paste adhesive is non-slip and is suitable for a wide range of substrates. The tiles were again grouted with KERACOLOR FF, its DropEffect water-repellent properties making it ideal for wet areas.
Mapei is the world’s largest manufacturer of adhesives, sealants and chemical products for building. With over 70 years experience, Mapei is a specialist in the production of quality products for the installation of all types of wall and floor coverings, and has a vast range of admixtures and repair products for concrete and building materials.
