First post, although been lurking for quite some time.

I do a reasonable amount of tiling (though don't make a living from it like you guys), up to now has always been ceramics with tubbed adhesive (mostly bathrooms when we do a full re-fit).

Anyway, customer has chosen a 600x300 porcelain for the latest job (they actually get 20m of them free with the suite they have bought, so the quality will be dubious no doubt).

They are not that heavy (have used heavier ceramics), however I do know that I need to use bagged adhesive.

The thing is I don't like the idea of rapid set and the possible wasteage if I can't get the tiles on fast enough (I know I can mix bits at a time but seems like a real pain).

So.....

Is there a bagged adhesive which will do the job nicely without setting too quickly and can I just use normal grout with porcelain?

Also, the same tiles are being used for the floor. Can the same combination of adhesive/grout be used (I will be plying the floor first naturally).

something like bal ctf can be used for the walls,there are quite a few cement based adhesives that aren't rapid-set,using the same grouts should be fine(microflex for walls),however i would recommend using rapid-set on the floor(accidents happen with customers) you can eliminate the problem of it going of too quick by cutting the floor first then laying it!

You will need to use a flexible adhesive and grout. Have a look at Mapei Keraflex. Got 8hrs bucket time and is an excellent adhesive. Personal fave grout is Ultracolor Plus. Rapid setting so if you are not quite up to it try a slower setting flexy grout.

Not on porcelain it can't....it will need an additive.

Keraflex will be the one to go for IMO. Decent prices and decent adhesive.

Technic T-88 we use this on most of our large format tiles ..for porc slate stone and ceramics polymer modified cement based non slip clas act.

Mapei P9, 8 hours in the bucket for powdered addy

Wall & floor tile adhesive for low porosity tiles

• Standard setting (24 hours)
• For fixing ceramic and porcelain tiles to walls and floors
• Polymer modified to provide a strong bond onto tiles/substrates with low porosity
• Available in white
BS EN 12004 - C2T

Give your local tile giant a ring for great prices, tell them TF sent you...

I would be using either Keraflex, P9 or Ardex X7G+ (my personal fav ) for the walls. I always use a rapid set for floors, and as mentioned already why don't you dry lay first?

You will deffo need a flexible grout too.
