Help wrong grout used!
Hello I am new here!! but after some advice...My shower was tiled and grouted using a sandstone grout. The tiler only noticed that it should not of been used in a shower after he had grouted it all!!!
So do I now have to regrout?( Or can i seal it? ) If so I need one that is a sandstone...Is it really hard to remove the old grout?
What a nightmare!!!

Re: Help wrong grout used!
It says waterproof...but then on the back in small writing it says not suitable for use in showers. My daughter had a long shower the other day and the grout is breaking away and going down the drain....Hence the shower is not being used

Re: Help wrong grout used!
That is the strangest thing I ever have ever heard. A grout being "waterproof" but not suitable for showers. Talk about false advertising

Yes I know!
But now I had the hassle of trying to sort it out...Any help would be much appreciated!

Re: Help wrong grout used!
The only thing I can suggest is to rake out all of the grout and re-grout with a suitable grout. It's not a nice job, but it's best to do it properly

By the sound of it it won't take you long to get the grout out

There are grout rake/removers that are manual. They take quite abit of work, but being as the grout is falling out, it shouldn't take too much work
Alternatively, something like a dremel could be used, but you would have to be careful not to catch the edges of the tile.

I'm sorry about this but if it is coming away there is no other choice but to rake it out and replace it with a suitable gout eg. mapie ultacolur or a similar product , there is a hand held tool on the market called a grout rake this should assist you in removing it and it will also save you a lot of time.
thanks

You don't say where your from, maybe a local guy could do it for you, for a fee of course

Re: Help wrong grout used!
way i see it, its unfortunately the tilers mistake as he didnt stop when he noticed it, id get him back in to regrout
failing that homebase and wickes do a cheap dremel and buy a grout remover rake and takes no time
