Default Laying vinyl planks - where to start?

I am about to re-floor my bathroom and would like to lay vinyl planks in there. The bathroom is downstairs and has a relatively uneven cement floor. It has had lino on it until now.

I am a total beginner at this, so any help would be appreciated!

How do I level the floor? I want something with an ok finish, but without breaking the bank or being ridiculously complicated.

    Thanks in advance!

    Halo

Self leveling compound but remove the existing vinyl and any old adhesive that remains

    Thanks that's a help.

Is there a particular brand or type of self-leveling compound you'd recommend? And where would I purchase such a thing?

    Thanks

Mapei is lovely and easy to use but it's whats available in your area, go to a few tile retailers and ask there advise. Comeback onto the forum with a few names of slc and see what replies you get on certain makes.

Hello again -Halo (sounds like a Neil Diamond song)

Mapei fibreplan is good - mix as instructed on bag and shouldn't go wrong.
Its a self leveller and goes from a few mm upwards.
Make sure you let the floor fully dry from previous vinyl before you apply it as water/dampness can get trapped under old vinyl.
You will be able to put your vinyl planks down the next day.

    Timeless john.

Builders merchants also stock self leveller so shop around. I always jam or temporary nail a piece of batten across any doorways so that the leveller doesn't slope off into the doorway.

Thanks that's a good tip- it's a downstairs bathroom and the door frame is actually raised at the bottom, so I don't think I'll have to do this.

I now need to know how to remove lino adhesive- anyone got any ideas on this one?
