Default Limestone tile cracking in conservatory

Hi all, I have a customer who is wanting to tile her conservatory floor, (suspended timber construction) They havent chosen there tiles yet but had a few limestone ones left over from there bathroom so layed them (no adhesive) down in the conservatory to get an idea of how they looked, been there a little while now and after the few days sunshine we had over the last week 1 of them appears to have cracked, now they are concerned that if the heat can crack them just sitting on the floor what might happen if they choose this tile laid.

Does limestone crack in the sun if not sealed.?
Is limestone suitable for this job.?

What would be the natural stone of choice for this job.?

Obviously i would take all the required steps to prep the floor, be it ply, hardibacker and or some decoupling membrane,

Just curious as to why the tile would have spontaneously cracked in the heat.?

    Cheers you guys/gals.

Its nat stone. there could be 20 reasons why it cracked

    underlying fault already there
bit of damp along a fault and the sun dried it and bang
stored it wrong after her bathroom i.e bottom tile
    stress fracture
    did someone stand on it
    Nature it is nat stone

stone is very suitable for conservatories/orangerys cool in summer looks good. whats important is to choose a good quality stone peeps want the look but they dont want to pay for it.

some of the cheap stone coming in to us here and the rest of europe is rubbish you really have to be careful and have a good look at it b4 u buy

No Pete not a wind up but thanks for your input.

Wetdecs I dont have the tile details with me as it is a friend of a friend who posed the question to me, there is every chance that that the tile could have been walked on but i have to believe the customer when they are adamant that no one has walked on it.

Could it be the tile has absorbed some moisture in storage and then when placed in the hot conservatory just cracked.?

    .

The thing is and everyone should note this the word limestone is thrown about by sales and fitters not really knowing what a product is.

If the limestone is actually travertine it is soft so would explain possible cracking.

If the limestone is in fact limestone cracking through weakness like Travertine is unlikely unless it is white thin cut.

When answering these questions about stone re cracking, adhesives, sealers etc.... maybe, could be, I guess, assume are phrases that are dangerous to make as if you are wrong someone has to pay.

First question should always be what is the stone.............collect the facts then give the advice
