ready mixed adhesive
Hi
I've been looking around today for some ready mixed adhesive, to put ceramic tiles in the kitchen. The floor is concrete but the floor still has the old tiles down from years ago. They are solid to the floor, so I've planned to put the new ceramic tiles over them. But I can't seem to find any ready mixed stuff that can be used on the existing tiles, only powered stuff that needs mixing. I would prefer ready mixed stuff as I'm not a tiler and don't trust myself to get the mix right.
Would be grateful if anybody could recommend anything.
Becky

Re: ready mixed adhesive
There are some that claim to be able for the floors, I don't, powdered should be the way to go. Personally I would take up the old tiles then relay

Re: ready mixed adhesive
Hi Becky, don't use ready mixed what ever you do, you WILL need to use a bagged adhesive. If your adamant about tiling on top of the existing tiles, have you thought about / taken into consideration the height gain, this will affect white goods and doors etc.
If your still going to go ahead with it you'll need to prep the tiles, give them a good scouring to give the addy something to key to, and wash them down with sugar soap to clean.
Good luck.

Re: ready mixed adhesive
It looks like I will have to use powdered stuff then. Why can't you use ready mixed stuff, just out of interest? I did'nt really want to take the tiles up, as they have been there a really long time, since about the 70's and the floor isn't good underneath.
Thanks to both of you for your help.

That bothers me about the floor, remember a a job done right will last a long time. Tubbed adhesive is basicly made for walls and there is not the strenght for floors, powdered has far more compression strenght.
