    Default prep and tiling question

    hi all
i have a kitchen splashback to do but need to do a bit of prep around window and in a few other places. The damaged areas are quite deep so i was planning on using one coat plaster as i knnow you can go quite thick with that but i have a couple of questions. Can you tile straight onto one coat stuff and how long before it can be tiled on?
Also the tiles that the customer is having im doing a moasic boarder but the boarder is thicker than the tile itself by around 2-3m. Any one got any tips on that or had a job like that before? My intial thoughts were to use a bigger notched trowell for the wall tiles say a 10mm? Would this do the trick?
    Cheers for the advice

I would use a powdered adhsive for the field tiles it would be to thick for tubbed gear. The one coat would be be ok for tiling on

Yeah thats what i was thinking whitebeam. Bigger notched trowell with powdered addy for field tiles then leave the required gap for the border and use a depth gauge for border to buildthat up to the required level of the tiles so everything is nice and flush. The guy said he doesn't mind the border sticking out from the tiles but i told him that would look rubbish and detract from the finish........

You could even put the borders on first then bring your field tiles to that level

Yeah could be a good shout that Whitebeam. The only pitfall i could see in that would be you would have to be very carful with your levels when puting on border as if you run out ever so slightly you could be left with a bigger gap at the worktop. Although on the other hand it shouldn't really run out enough not to be able to cover it by the silicone gap. Cheers for the speedy advice
