Which Adhesive and Grout?
Hi all, just got some trav imitation tiles (310 x 450) which I decided to fit in brickblock pattern with 2 mm joints over about 16 sq/m in the shower/bathroom.
Im looking for a good value waterproof / flexible adhesive and grout, I was going to get the Mapei Ultracolorplus but Ive read some horror stories about it going patchy and going off really fast, so I am leaning away from this as I'm not the fastest.
PS what quantities would I need for 16sq/m

Re: Which Adhesive and Grout?
What are these trav imitation tiles made from ? and what background are you tiling onto ?
Assuming it's plasterboard I'd prime them first, then use a rapid set adhesive, white if needed, or use single part if you want longer curing times and a smooth fine grain grout, I normally use Bal for both, or Topps own, which I think is still Palace.
I always work on between 4 to 5 sqm per bag of rapid set adhesive, so your looking at between 3 to 4 bags.

Re: Which Adhesive and Grout?
Hi janzbro these are classed as large format tiles i would'nt use tubbed gear for these.you need a powder adhesive.if you get trade, weber set plus white.from ctd is the cheapest gear around at the moment its perfect for the job Ģ10.50 for a 20kg you will need 4 bags.and get BAL microflex grout. if your tiling a shower this will need tanking and tubbed gear wont dry

Cement based adhesive with good initial adhesion strength and no vertical slip for ceramic tiles.
Applications:
Interior and exterior bonding of ceramic tiles and mosaics of every type on floors, walls and ceilings on conventional substrates (cement renders and screeds, underfloor heating installations, brick walls, blocks walls, gypsum boards).
Also suitable for tile on tile with medium-size tiles (up to 900 cm2) and spot-bonding of insulating materials such as expanded polystyrene, expanded polyurethane, rock and glass wool, EraclitŪ (wood-cement panels), sound-deadening panels, etc.
Installation over gypsum based or anhydrite based surfaces is possible after having first applied Primer G, Mapeprim SP or Primer S. Coverage
2-5 kg/m2. Packaging
20 kg bags, 4x5 kg boxes.
