Another primer/pva question
I've had some plastering work done and he has pva'd the walls where i am going to tile with 300*600 ceramic tiles.I haven't been to buy the adhesive yet but was wondering if it is best to use primer on the walls or whether I am wasting my money since the plasterer has already pva'd them ?

Re: Another primer/pva question
if he's pva'ed the walls that have been plastered ready for tiling, best to try and remove the pva, I suggest using a sander to remove it,
good luck

Re: Another primer/pva question
Definitey sand the pva off then prime. How thick are your tiles Mick, just thinking about the weight issue

Re: Another primer/pva question
Thanks, they are approx 10mm thick so i will give the walls a gentle sand and then primer them.Still unsure as to which adhesive to use as always used bal grip before but never tiled with tiles of this size and everybody has there favourite ?

Re: Another primer/pva question
Thank guys they don't feel light when i'm picking the boxes up (6 in a box),something else I should have thought about before I picked them.I will try and weigh them. If they are too heavy will that mean I will have to plasterboard over my new plaster ?

Re: Another primer/pva question
weigh the tiles first and allow 3 to 5 kg for adhesive and grout....then come back to us..

Re: Another primer/pva question
Ive just weighed the tiles they are approx 2st 12 lbs /box of 6 which is just over 1m2,by my reckoning that works out at 16kg /box which will be at limit when addy weight added.
Tile size is 300*600*10.5 which works out at 1.08m2/box
box weight is 16kg divided by 1.08m2 =14.8kg/m2 for tiles
I think my calcs are correct and hopefully will be ok.What do you guys think ?

Re: Another primer/pva question
There are only 5 tiles to the sqr mtr on a 600x300 so looks like you will be fine...

Re: Another primer/pva question
Mapei Kerebond T which is a bagged powder adhesive will be fine for plaster after priming with Mapei Primer G according to the little black book or another manufactures equivalent if mapei is not available at your local stockist, You can get it from B and Q if you struggle with a local supplier, it is branded as Buildfix
