Mapei lead the way at Shopping Centre

Mapei lead the way at Shopping Centre Mapei’s products have been used for the recent refurbishment of the Kingsway Centre; part of the major regeneration of Newport, South Wales.
The refurbishment of the shopping centre floor involved tiling to an existing terrazzo substrate. The 150m long floors of the centre were finished with a variety of porcelain tiles in varying sizes, shapes and finishes supplied by Domus Tiles including DG15 Satin Finish Porcelain Stone Floor Tiles 596x596mm, DG16 Satin Finish Porcelain Stone Border Tiles 296x596mm and Domus Structurestone Range, unglazed Porcelain Stone Mosaic 600x300mm in a mixture of colours to form a mosaic feature.
The centre design was undertaken by Colman Architects. All shapes and sizes of tiles were fixed by J H Lidstone (Plastering) Ltd using Mapei Granirapid, 2-part rapid set flexible adhesive, for stone conglomerate marble and resin bonded tiles, with extraordinary bonding and fast setting properties. Granirapid is ideal for areas subject to heavy traffic and those, which need accessing quickly. The 3-4mm tile joints were grouted with Mapei Ultracolor Plus 114, Anthracite, a fast setting and drying grout, which is available in 26 colours to complement any colour scheme.
This flexible, mould and water repellent, anti-efflorescence grout, is suitable for heavy duty areas and can be used both internally and externally, on walls and floors. Mapei is the world’s largest manufacturer of adhesives, sealants and chemical products for building.
With over 70 years experience, Mapei is a specialist in the production of quality products for the installation of all types of wall and floor coverings, and has a vast range of admixtures and repair products for concrete and building materials.
