Default General grout/adhesive for the odd small slate tile?

I'm tiling a backsplash all the way round my kitchen with small (~5cm) natural slate tiles. The bulk of it is done and I'm left with all the bits that require cut tiles. I've used a specific, powdered adhesive for the tiles so far but I'm going to be doing the cut tiles a few at a time...is it OK to use a big tub of general tile grout/adhesive that I've got to put the odd slate tile on or is it going to cause problems? (It's a big tub that I got for sticking and grouting plain white ceramic tiles in the shower.)

For info, I'm doing the cut tiles a few at a time because I don't have a wet tile cutter and my angle grinder seems to like to split the slates tiles into multiple layers instead of doing a nice cut. I'd rather not have to make up an adhesive mix from the powdered adhesive just to do a few tiles at a time.

    Cheers!

you will be much better using bagged adhesive for these,i wouldn't advise using tubbed gear for slate, why don't you cut them over a few days and put them on at the same time, maybe leaving the cuts on a piece of paper indicating where they should go!
