Powdered adhesive
I have a job booked in approx 23m2 of walls 600x300mm porcelain and 5m2 of floor including a wet area with porcelain mosaic tiles 300x300mm.
I am going to use powdered adhesive and was wondering what you guys advise is the best product to use?
I have spoken to 'topps tiles' and they advise using flexi-white rapid set there own make.
Is there a powdered adhesive out there that is not rapid setting as don't fancy this for walls?
Also, when I mix the adhesive I dont want to be rushed into putting tiles on as the adhesive may go off in the bucket. Do you mix the adhesive quite thick, like when you get it out of a tub or is it the same consistency as floor adhesive?
I have been tiling now for 4 years and I have been kind of putting off jobs that require using powdered adhesives for walls, due to the time scale of having to mix your own. I have laid 100's m2 of floors with no problems using powdered but not walls.
One last thing, my customer has read in the gemini brochure that the porcelain tiles I am laying require sealing, but the shop he is buying them from have said they do not!
Any ideas?
I will try to post some pic's when the job is complete.
Regards
Scott.

Re: Powdered adhesive
Topps own is Palace, I have just got hold of some Mapei Adesilex P9 which can be used for porcelain but for that size tile maybe Mapei keraflex maxi which lasts about 8 hours in the bucket and takes up any undulation in the wall.

Re: Powdered adhesive
Try Mapei P9 on the walls, on offer at CTD at present. Pot life of 8 hrs. Used it today! Rule of thumb for porcelain tiles is polished tiles need sealing and 'matt' tiles don't.
Snap Whitebeam just read the spec on the keraflex maxi and thats the one for the larger porcelain tiles. good shout.

i think Topps has just changed suppliers? bought 20kg of their stuff and was told made by Dunlop (BAL) for once quite competative but it goes off very and i mean VERY quickly. as usual CTD is very well priced for keraquick(offer at the mo) but I hate to say it B&Q have started stocking own branded stuff by Mapei ( cant remember what its called) i think its Mapei keraflex in a slightly different bag-also very well priced (not quite as good as CTD though). i would love to have been the sales guy at Mapei who landed that contract!

Re: Powdered adhesive
use mosaic-fix on those mosaics,i not long ago went to a job and the previous tiler had used a flexible adhesive used for her mosaics and they all lifted within days, other than that topps own make is good for the rest as i use it often! if you don't fancy using rapid-set you could use bal ctf!
