Bad choice of title maybe? but, this is a valid question by the way!

I am using a Plasplugs Carbide Scriber tool to scrap away Grout. I am re-grouting with a different color.

Hard work! but what I want to know is ...

How much of the Grout do a need to scrap away?

My tiles are about 6mm thick. I guess the Adhesive would be 2 or 3mm thick. So do I need to scrap away all the Grout back down to the wall or will just taking off say 3/4mm of Grout be ok and would the new Grout bond ok?
