Question HELP! - Adhesive advice - 12mm ply onto Weyroc

Firstly I would just like to say thanks to everyone who contributes to this forum as it provides a great service!
I have not yet gained enough (any!) knowledge or experience to enable me to give any advice out yet but hopefully in time I will.
Until then I will keep reading and asking which leads me onto the main reason for my thread..............

    Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a new tiler about to commence on my first couple of jobs for friends and I need to decide which adhesive and grout to use. I am currently going round and round in circles due to contradictory information.

Firstly I am hoping that somebody can clarify if Mapei P9 (£10/20kg) is suitable to lay 300*300 ceramic tiles onto a bathroom floor that is Weyroc that has been overlaid with 12mm WBP ply. I have been advised that it should be OK but I am doubtful and as this is my first job I do not want to go down the wrong route!
I was originally planning to use a Bal supercover flexible but I cannot afford to (£35/20kg!) so I am lookng for an alternative. From reading the various threads I would like to stick to Mapei as it appears that it's second favourite to Bal but at a fraction of the cost. I do believe that Keraquick is suitable but then I am stuck with a pot life of 30 mins and being a newbie this will most likely cause me issues!
Therefore if the P9 is no good then any adhesive suggestions as to a good quality but reasonably priced (i.e. <£13 / 20kg) with an extended pot life suitable for this job would be very very appreciated.
Hope you helpful experienced tilers can put an end to my endless merry go round!

With regard to grout I am planning to use the Mapei ultra colour. Any thoughts welcome.

Also I am planning to fix the ply at 250mm centres with turbo gold screws. Should I also apply some no nails to the weyroc for extra bonding?

Please feel to point out any glaring errors I may be about to make!

    Mark.

Mapei P9 is not suitable.....Use mapei keraquick or keraquick and latex plus...

Remember that even with rapid set and limited pot life, only mix the amount you can comfortably work with without wastage.

Mixing a full bag is not always an option for even the most experienced tilers.

Work in small areas and if you get to a stage where you need help just come back on here and you will find your answer in a matter of moments.

Personally i fix screws at 150mm centres but this my choice.

    And dont forget the pics.

The pot life of Keraquick is only 30mins if the temprature is warm. This time of year, you will get at least an hour in the bucket! I have just been using it on kitchen walls and you need more time to play around with your tiles on walls, so you should be fine!!

Ultracolor Plus is great stuff, but it may give you more problems than the Keraquick for setting as it does go off quite quick. You need to follow the instructions quite carefully too. My favoured grout for floors by a long way.

Thanks to all for your advice.

I have decided to go for the Keraquick with the windows open to prolong the pot life.
With regard to grout I have decided to go for the Bal Superflex Wide Joint Grout.

Plying now going to 150mm centres.
Any thoughts on using divergent staples instead of screws?
Or possibly a combination of the 2?
Can I ask if I should be laying to avoid the edges of the ply being in the same place as the edges of the weyroc and should I be aiming for no gap between the ply or leaving a small expansion gap. If leaving a gap, how big and what should this be filled with?

    Cheers Mark.

The gaps lining up with the sheets shouldn't be a problem, you should leave a 2mm gap between your boards for expansion and leave them unfilled.
