REMOVE IT how do you expect to have a sound surface to tile onto if you were to leave it down

Hiya.....It will be best to remove it....if it is glued at the edges then just use a heat gun to soften it and pull it up..

Cutting it into largish squares with a utility knife makes it easier to get up....

    What substrate is underneath..?

you must remove it,,i recently lifted a tiled floor where the tiler had laid a 30 sq metre peice of thick polythene down on the floor and tiled directly onto it,,only been down 1 year and smashed to bits.
