Has the plasterboard gotta be primed or is that for only plaster?

Mapei spec says priming not necessary, however, if you have a tear in the paper revealing gyosum you have the possibility of getting Ettringite crystalisation. Doesn't hurt to prime plasterboard and can have other benefits like increasing open time and cleaning off excess adhesive residue.
