Will My Adhesive Be OK ?
Hi
After reading on this forum I had made up my mind to buy Mapei bagged adhesive for my tiling.
I am a DIYer who won't be that quick and in the tile shop I was persuaded to buy Dunlop Waterproof tubbed adhesive.
As I've never mixed adhesive before and not sure how much to mix each time I went for the Dunlop.
Now I wonder if it will be Ok.
I've got 250 x 400 ceramic tiles and skimmed plasterboard walls.
My gut feeling is that it will be OK but the bagged mapei would be better - am I right? or given my inexperience should I stick with the Dunlop?
Thanks

Re: Will My Adhesive Be OK ?
generally these tile are into the large format range so it would be better if you did use bagged adhesive, you can get mapei cement based adhesive that isn't rapid set and should give you a bucket life of about 8hrs,when you first mix it only knock up a small quantity that way you will get a feel for how much adhesive and water you will need,it should be mixed to a reasonably thick cream texture!
mapei kereflex maxi,i had to check that one out,use can also use bal ctf(my preference)

The tiles you have are too big for tubbed adhesive there is a chance it will never dry fully and will certainly take several days before you can grout.
Go with your original intincts and get the Mapei bagged stuff. You can get Keraflex or P9 which has 8 hrs of bucket life so you can easily mix 1/2 bag at a time if you wish, it will last all day. Just follow the instructions on the bag for mixing ratios and always add the powder to the water, a bit at a time, not the other way round.

Re: Will My Adhesive Be OK ?
One tiler I know at the end of a day if he has any addy left puts water in the bucket above the level of addy so it can be used the next day, not that I would reccomend this practise

Re: Will My Adhesive Be OK ?
Thanks for your help. I've returned the tubbed adhesive to the shop and bought some Mapei keraflex.
He didn't want to refund until I showed him the tub - It does say not to use it on tiles above 300 x 300 - use cement based instead.

That's why you should always be wary of advice handed out by sales people.

as your walls are skimmed curlywurly, be sure to prime with an acrylic primer, your tile shop will be able to supply you with a suitable one

I,ve got some Mapei Primer G. It says it's a synthetic resin based primer in water suspension. will it be Ok?
I thought that if I stick to one brand then I would be OK?

Re: Will My Adhesive Be OK ?
Will be fine, technical data sheet says it's for use over gypsum plaster, amongst other things.
