    Default mapei adhesives

Is it just me or is there a big promotion going on with mapei addy`s, it seems every thread i see that someone is saying don`t use that one use mapei.
now i must admit that i work in an outlet that don`t sell there products so have no experience of them, and agree that all the tilers will have there own brand preferences, just seems like someone has been told to always promote mapei coz of the forum sponsorship, but i thought this place was to help people not to get them to only use mapei products,
might just be me has anyone else got any opinions on this,
    thanks

very rarely use mapei myself, only when customers want specific grouts and silicone or a kitchen outfit provides them,i prefer bal but have noticed the difference between them is minimal so don't really pay much attention!

That outlet being topps, or am i wrong...

All members on here mention all sorts of adhesives they use....

    PCI.
    BAL.
    Mapei.
    Palace.
    Ardex.
    Weber.

etc etc etc.....but when we have a retailer selling Mapei at unbeleivable prices then isn't it good to let the members know about it...

Same as pro-fix has been mentioned coz our sponsor is selling that at low prices..

If we only allowed Mapei to be mentioned we would delete all mentions of other brands.

What brands does your outlet sell if it isn't topps..? or mapei..

    Hi Mate
    HONESTLY !!!!

I am a free spirit - I have never met any of the guys on the Forum, I receive no financial gain fro recommending Mapei, that is just my preference, as is a number of other guys here, there was a poll a while ago, try have a look for it " What brand of adhesive do you use" We all prefer different ones.
I will always recommend Mapei, because that is the brand I prefer.

i think a lot of people have found them to be reasonably priced and its quality gear. i only use the mapei grout. i use loads of different addys but not mapei as i cant get it locally. nobody is promoting it if you look through previous posts you will find people talking about ,benfer ultra, sovereign, granfix,nicobond..etc

You have a point and it can seem like that at times! BUT if the forum was sponsored by B&Q would we be promoting their products??? Probably not. Mapei produce reliable materials and have built a good reputation, the same as Bal, they are the Rolls Royces of Adhesives. Who wants to talk about a clapped out old escort?! Not me.

Don't think there is a specific push toward Mapei products. I for one also recommend Ardex adhesives and grouts. if there are questions regarding competing products -bal for instance - and I have something to offer the poster I will give the advice as I see it.

One thing to bear in mind though, the forum is kept free of charge for members to come here and seek advice and it is because of our generous sponsors. Is not natural therefore to steer our information towards products and suppliers that are helping to keep the information free for all and sundry to use?

I have noticed a lot more "pushing" of sponsors products over the last month or so, to be honest. Doesn't bother me too much, although at one point it started to sound like we weren't allowed to mention the competition. Glad to say it's back on a more even keal of late.

I think the top brand addy's are gonna be pretty much alike, so i'll go for whatever i can get cheapest. I haven't enough experience to be able to tell the difference yet lol!

    Just to add....
I would love to be able to offer advice on "other brands" that would suit a particular purpose, but as I rarely use any other brand than Mapei, this is not possible.

I have used mapei for about a year Trade depot used to do 3 for 2 great price. Alas trade depot shut down. But 3 hours light foot traffic on a smallish floor is too long to wait. I always use ardex x7r walk on after 2 hours. Get away with hour and half in right conditions. Get the job done quicker. Worst time to stand on tile just as it going off. CTD £20 which is a lot dearer but worth it. Not tried profix yet but will

Personally i sell mapei, bal, pro-fix and weber! as everyone knows each tiler has his own preference and as a manager its my responsibilty to try and keep all my customers happy!!

Bal has been a winner for years for the record though, but mapei is slowly but surely catching up, the ultracolour grouts and silicones are a real seller, keraquick getting a lot more popular too!

I only knew of MAPEI through their sponsership of the most Formidable Pro Cycling team ever, was not really sure of exactly what they made cracking Jersey ( graphics same as their bags spotted them instantly in one of the local suppliers, thoughts left tiling to Cycling instantly, sad but true), would it be bad to buy on that level or is it good kit

As said before every tiler has his/her preference. I've used Mapei/Bal and granfix as that what i can get here. Mapei was my fav stuff to use so use that all the time now(plus i get it quite cheap). CTW opened here not that long ago so gonna give the nano lite a try. Thats if they ever get the white addy in .

Adhesive wise, I use what ever is on offer at the time (within reason) Bal is too pricey. Grout wise I use the Mapei stuff and would now be reluctant to use anything else.

one thing this forum isnt and that is bias to one adhesive or one anything, thats why i like it,there is a forum out there somewhere that will not allow you too mention other products at all,in fact your likely to barred if you persist in talking about certain competitors of that particular forum.

i use mapei bal and grandfix.

I can see where you're coming from as there are quite a few posts answered with links to advertisers products, photos of their products are generally more emphasis of sponsors than non-sponsors. I can understand why they are replied to in such ways, often they are the best solution and deal and answer the question.
It's just for such an 'independent' forum it often feels like the product placements in sitcoms from the 70's. A year ago it seemed to be a very much pro-BAL place with all the polls and advice suggesting as such, now the same advisors are suggesting Mapei - A good move in my book!
As a user of keraquick I have to say the buttery goodness of the stuff is years ahead of the competition unless they can greatly change their formulations to match mapei's - great slc and grout too!
