Prep Question
Morning, First time poster here,
I have just stripped wallpaper and some old tiles from my bathroom wall, I am left with some old plasteron the wall.
Am I right is saying that all of the old plaster will have to be removed, it's completely flat but must be taken off anyway?
Part of the wall were the plaster's come off attached to the tile, has left broken or uneven parts of the cement wall, what is the best way to rectify this before tiling?
If plastering is the answer to this, how long must it be left before you can tile over it?
All help most welcome, cheers!

Re: Prep Question
Is the plaster sound? if so you should be able to tile on to it. You can patch in the places with rapid set tile adhesive or a bag of plaster. If you plaster the wall it's about 1 day per mm of plaster depth drying time.

Re: Prep Question
As Rad says, if the plaster is sound, (give it a tap and check for hollow sounding area's or loose bits), then patch it up with tile adhsive (bagged) or quick set plaster. If your ripping it all off, replace it with cement board instead of having it replastered, it will be a stronger surface for you to tile on.

Only if the tiles you're putting on exceed the weight limit for plaster (20KG/Mē). Is it skimmed plasterboard, or plaster render over bock/brick? If weight is an issue, replace/overboard with cement board as Oli said.

Re: Prep Question
Was speaking to a workmate about a mixer shower being fitted and plastering the pipe chase before tiling over it. Can i use tile adhesive to fill in the pipe chase and if so would I only use adhesive or would I pack it with something else??
BAL green start adhesive I bought yesterday.

Re: Prep Question
You could try expanding foam, brilliant for filling in holes or chasing.
Word of warning though, don't put too much in as it does exactly what it says on the product - it expands, quite a lot............
