    Default New Marley Floor Tiles

    Hi Guys, Great Forum
Does any one know if it is okay to pull up existing 2mm thick Marley floor tiles & replace new Marley tiles over the original black based tar type glue? If so do I need a sealer or can I assume the new glue will be accepted by the original?
The original tiles have been down since 1991 I don`t really want to risk tileing over the existing tiles for reasons I`ve read in your forum.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Okay I don`t seem to be getting much luck with this question? Perhaps I should try again------
I will be taking up all the original Marley tiles in the kitchen which will leave a slight residue of existing adhesive, will it be okay to tile new Marley floor tiles onto the original adhesive or will I have to prepare the area with sealant first.
Please can I have an answer as my wife is starting to give me a hard time.

While there may be a few who tile vinyl floors, the forum is mainly ceramic and stone tilers.

Hi amtiler, probably haven't got an answer because if it's those stickyback vinyl tiles you mean it's not really our area but in a previous diy life (don't tell anyone) I put them on a floor and looked rubbish so became a 'proper' tiler. I would ply over and start fresh. Ceramics would look better than vinyl though. good luck with the missus

you could put the new marly tiles straight over it if its level if not prime and use self level compound and maybe rub with a carbon brick if theres any high spots or burs then your marly tiles, the glue for laying them is sticky stuff you need to know what your at unless its the sticky backs

Would advise going over the whole floor with self levelling compound to ensure that you get a good adhesion for the new tiles.
