    Default Epoxy waterproof grouting

Im not sure if this is the right thread to post this in but im currently on a 4 week tiling course, its my 2nd week in and today we went over a lil bit about epoxy waterproof grouting, so the instructor makes up the mixture and pours it over the tiles and someone pipes in with the question 'do we charge extra for doing this', instructor replies 'yes, £25 per m2', so he carries on with grouting out the area(roughly 1m2) and it takes him 10mins, if that. So i then ask 'is that £25 per m2 just labour, or is that including materials'. Instructor replies cost is only for the labour and i point out that it only took him only 10mins and he replies 'well thats not my fault'.

Now i am an honest, hardworking young man with my whole tiling career ahead of me, so what do i know eh. I really don't wanna rip or mug anybody off especially customers that are gonna recommend me to other people that they know. The way i see it is, if i can afford to work for say £50 per day, and other tilers are charging £150 per day, then am i wrong to be charging these prices or even undercutting them?

It will be the cleaning up that takes the time with the epoxy, What you charge for any job should be based on it's merits ie difficulty, tiles and distance etc. If you want to charge £50 a day thats upto you and you would be very popular with customers, What your've got to remember is your a business not a charity and charging them prices you will never make a living

one of my first ever jobs was a mosaic kidney shaped swimming pool using epoxy grout, it was like trying to get s**t off a blanket!!
as for your tutor, "those that can do, those that can't teach!)
as for your price, mmmm I need to earn about £750 a week before I can even think about treating myself to a pint!

Try CTD if you have one near you, they should be able to supply some for you.

Damn doug, you must have racked up a lot of debt over the years buddy, i've been taking home £275 per week for the past 3yrs, got a beautiful 200k house and go on 3 holidays a year, not 1 bit of debt though except for the mortgage of course.

So is he right about the prices is all i wanna know really, another guy on my course has already priced up some jobs and has quoted £150 per day, and the tutor asked him where he lived so im gathering where you live also depends on the amount you can charge, i really don't wanna outprice myself and not get the jobs, the £50 per day was just an example, obviously im not gonna be that cheap but i don't wanna be overpriced either.

Is there anywhere on this site where i can find out prices for a m2 of all types of tiling, i.e brick pattern, diamond, normal squares lined up blah blah blah?

Cheers for ya help guys, mucho appreciated

Hi Wannabe, most of the pricing info is in the Pros section of the site which you don't yet have access to.

Check out the thread - "Doorway to the tilers forums arms" this tells you what you need to do to get access to there.

Where's the door to the Tilers Forums Arms?
