help with tumbled marble mosaic tiles- sealer and grout
I've purchased 10sqM of tumbled marble mosaic tiles and would like your help. ebay item number 200262808751 is what i have.
[/URL]They are now on the wall and I have to grout them. I worked out I need about 30kg of grout and I have gone for BAL Microflex wall grout in ivory.
- what is the practice of grouting and sealing these ?
- Do I seal, grout and then seal using same sealer ?
- Is Ivory a good choice or what would you use ?
- Is Aqua Mix Ultra Solv Stone Sealer any good ?
Your help will be much appreciated.
Thanks

Re: help with tumbled marble mosaic tiles- sealer and grout
The stone is bottocino tumbled marble they will not need sealing before grouting. Yes that grout colour should be fine, ife them a coat of Lithofin intensifier sealer when completely dry, give the other sealer a miss.

Re: help with tumbled marble mosaic tiles- sealer and grout
I've used Lithofin Stain Stop (yes even though it says stain stop - it apparently water seals as well) for sealing Travertine before. I imagine it would do the job fine. Its what my tile supplier always recommends.
They recommended sealing before grouting - and after grouting. However, there didn't seem to be any hard and fast rules. It just seemed a case of the more sealer the better - belt and braces and all that.
You also are meant to reseal after a year or so - I seem to remember.
WetDec - is the intensifier product similar?

Re: help with tumbled marble mosaic tiles- sealer and grout
I wouldn't use Aquamix personally. I'd use Lithofin like WetDec and pt44 I think. I like the tile though, good choice.
Any before and after shots available?DanTilersForums.co.uk Owner

Re: help with tumbled marble mosaic tiles- sealer and grout
Yes m8 ..........the intensifier will bring out the colour.
1 point.............this is marble not travertine............because of its density and the fact its tumbled sealing first isnt really needed the grout slides off.
NOTE put too much sealer on this and it will run as its low absorbsion, 1 maybe 2 coats tops

Re: help with tumbled marble mosaic tiles- sealer and grout
i would also say that you need to use some sort of residue remover prior to sealing to get rid of any surface/quarry dust, although this does come from more of an experience with travertine mosaics

Re: help with tumbled marble mosaic tiles- sealer and grout
The important thing to remember is the tile needs to be thoroughly dry with any colour intensifier and by that I mean a full 24 hours.
It is not important to me which intensifier you use but remember if you go with lithofin remember to make sure the area is very well ventilated prior to application as per application instructions
