Whats the material on the walls mate, plaster, plasterboard etc................
It's plaster mate...
It would need to be primed, so I would go for a bucket gear which is self-priming..has the primer in it already, Bal white star, or Ardex D20, both very good gear.
Cheers Fred, how much is required for 12msq then mate & how much would it cost?
If you use a 6mm notch trowel you will really need a bucket & a half. I pay around £13 for D20 & £16 for white star, but depends where you are and what you can get. If you look for a CTD near you they have both mate.![]()

you get around 5 m2 a tub
Many many thanks Fred, your help & guidance is much appreciated.
Now the walls in the bathroom that i want to tile are uneven, with old adhesive from the previous tiles left on the walls, which makes it all bobbly & there are gouges in the walls. I know i can pack out the gouges with the addy, but what do i flatten/smooth the bobbles out with, i.e. what tools.
Again any help much appreciated.
OK, you really need to use a floor'wall scraper....you can get them from tradetiler or any good diy shop. Scrap off all unwanted adhesive etc, then see how far out the walls are.
If they are well out, maybe a re-plaster job to level up the walls, or if a little out, you can pack with the addy, but not too much with bucket gear as it is not designed for that, you would have to go to powder gear, seal the walls, work out the deepist area and build out from the shalloest point, but re-plastering is easier, not cheaper imo. You could even dot & dab new plaster board on and get it flat that way.
Nice one Fred, i'll only need the scraping method i think, as it's not too bad mate. I'm using cementious powdered grout from Weber, well the family member has chosen it.
Thank you for all your advice tonight Fred, have a lovely weekend mate.
Steve
