    Default silicon application and tape(s)?

Using tape eg. "corner tape" or painters tape with silicon sealing around a tub or in a tiled corner, how long would you leave it after application before removing the tape?
I use a soapy finger to strike and smooth the silicon almost immediately after applying: any other suggestions for a better finish?

b and q sell silicone profilers for £1.74 or something...just spray silicone with soapy water and spray applicator and smooth off.

I remove any masking tape imediately after smoothing the silicone. Then I give it a final and very light smooth having removed the tape. If you leave the tape on you'll find that the silicone starts to 'skin' and it will pull away from the joint as you try to remove the tape.

Make sure the area is dry and clean before you put the silicone on then as Brian says
