Which grout please
Hi
I'm just about to grout some tiles within a shower cubicle. Topps Tiles advised me to use either an acrylic grout or a water proofer on some BAL microflex grout.
I went with the water proofer on the microflex grout but Im now thinking some acrylic grout would be better.
What are your opinios please.

Re: Which grout please
I haven't used it yet. The grouting hasn't been done.
I'll get the name of the waterproofer later. It's the one that Topps Tiles stock and was recommended for use in a shower cubicle. It is applied directly onto the grout after it has dried.
I did get some Unibond Water Proof grout in a bag that says it's suitable for power showers but after reading some of the threads on here I suspect that this is no better than the Microlex I got at Topps tiles

I am afraid to tell you there is no such thing as Waterproof Grout regardless of what it says on the packet. The only waterproof grout is an Epoxy or you can make normal grout waterproof by using an epoxy coating.

100% correct!
I've just been out to look at the grout protector and that's what it is.
Is it man enough for the job, or do I do a 40 mile round trip today and get their waterproof grout? Epoxy/acrylic etc?

Re: Which grout please
Nothing wrong with Microflex grout in a shower. It is mould resistant and slightly flexible. You can paint on the grout protector if you like, but generally a spray with Microshield every couple of weeks will stop anything growing on the surface....Gaz

- Contains MicrobanŽ antibacterial protection: for extra hygiene
- Inhibits growth of bacteria and black mould

Thanks Gaz
That's basically what the chap at topps tiles said.
I just phoned them this morning to confirm. They seemed to think that the sealer wasn't absolutely necessary but may help with preventing staining.

It can't take any harm. From my experience many people buy grout which has mould free property, and think they don't have to clean in a shower area at all as part of routine maintenance. Nothing can grow in the Microflex, but they can and will grow on top, making the grout appear stained....Gaz
