    Default BAL adhesive

I'm going to be tiling a chipboard floor, the floor will be screwed at 300mm centers and I will make sure there is no movement in it. Because we don't want a step we don't want to apply ply board first. I have been advised to use Bal fast flex. Here come the questions....
Is it easy to use (i've heard it's abit messy)?
I've found some on the internet and it works out at around £50 for 4m2 is that right?
Would it be as good, (I know it would be cheaper) to use Ardex flex7001?

    Thanks in advance!

What is the size of the floor.
Bal flex is messy so wear latex or rubber gloves and yes its great adhesive. Never used the Ardex but i guess GrumpyGrouter will be along shortly to say how good it is

Try using Dunlop 2 part flexable rapidset, its the same as fastflex but alot cheaper and you get a mixing bucket, I used to use fastflex all the time but now use the Dunlop as its half the price and made by the same company

Chipboard is not the most stable of substrates to tile to , so check which ever adhesive you use is suitable for that purpose......

could you use ditra matting which would raise the floor about 4mm. i would never tile directly on a chipboard floor not even with a 2 part adhesive.

If the prep and fixing method was in accordance to bs and manufacturers spec, would you not take advantage of a 25 year guarantee on the product ?

As far as i was aware even chipboard manufacturers don't even recommend chipboard for tiling directly onto?

Ardex-flex 7001 is excellent stuff and will do the job you will need to prime first with P51 primer.

Like everything else with timber floors it needs to be solid.

    Thanks for the replies.
The size of the floor is 21m2, so I think bal fastflex will be too exspensive.
I think I'll try Dunlops 2 part flexable rapidset.
    Cheers Benny.

to answer your question about bal flex ,is it easy to use ? yes !it is brilliant adhesive, i have worked for tiling contrctors who only ever used bal flex as it can be used on pretty much every substrate its easy to keep your joints clean if you use a nylon brush and clean them out like that, avoid using water to clean your work up until after the adhesive has thoroughly cured also dont trowel tight up to corners leave it back 10mm from the edge as it can cause silicone to discolour
