Non Toxic Silicone...where can I buy?
Hi,
I found this forum really useful when I had a question about tiling and although this is technically not a tiling issue, I am wondering if anyone can help me.
I have bought a black glass splashback from luxair and am looking for a sealant. I have been informed by luxair that I should use a non toxic clear sealant. I have trawled the internet and cannot find one that is exactly that! I am told that the non toxic means that you can't see the blobs of sealant...!
Can you help me by telling where I can buy the non toxic sealant or recommending something else!
Many Thanks

Re: Non Toxic Silicone...where can I buy?
i think the nontoxic surely relates to it not being toxic?as in safe to digest,i cant see how toxisity(sorry for spelling) or non toxisity(and again) can stop you seeing the silicone surely thats why they suggest clear/transparent?

Re: Non Toxic Silicone...where can I buy?
Silicone by nature will always be toxic when it is not cured.
Powerful anti-fungal compound prevents mould growth in areas of high humidity
This came from one of the manufacturers websites.
Look for a silicone which is suitable for glazing applications at a hardware store near you, use translucent and only a thin bead or if you prefer a colored silicone.
I typically will only use translucent, sometimes clear as silicone should not be seen IMO, or if it is unavoidable it should be unobtrusive and as thin a bead as possible.

Re: Non Toxic Silicone...where can I buy?
I think you'll be ok with any clear silicone for kitchens,
I think you've got a bit confused, I think what the company means is that a clear silicone will be less noticed with the glass.
I believe that most silicones used to join glass panels in fish tanks is non toxic for obvious reasons.

I take it honey, that you are fixing these glass tiles with sealant. If you have been advised to used non toxic, I think they mean solvent free silicone which is the type to fix mirrors....therefore not eating away at the backing in the future....Gaz

Re: Non Toxic Silicone...where can I buy?
companies that manufacture fish tanks use a clear silicone that does not contain any anti fungal pesticides in them as these harm the fish if thats what you mean by non toxic then google fish tank manufacturers and they will have what you are looking for

Thanks for the replies.
I spoke with a glass splashback company and the guy said that the company probably means a nuetral cure silicone? Any thoughts?
