Really once you start fixing 300x 300 or larger on walls you should be looking at cement based adhesive only as cement adhesive dries by a chemical process and does not relay on evaporation of water to dry like tubbed "ready mixed adhesive" does, so with a large tile the middle area of adhesive may never dry if it needs air to dry it out.

For floors a cement adhesive should always be used no matter the size of tile.

Although i dont really use tubbed gear at all, i would deffo not used it on a tile over 300 x 300mm.

There are many different factors to consider and always the odd exception to the rule due to their being so many different adhesives out there. Have you got something specific in mind?
