Problem: bathroom tiling project; went to topps for WP1 kit and was sold homelux matting. used unibond ready mix which did not set and hold the matting. called homelux who were v helpful they recommended BAL single part and explained the problem of ready mix and offered to supply new matting. Will buy BAL single part. Tops should have stipulated NOT to use ready mix for matting application

Question: i now have 2 walls covered in set unibond, with no tiles or matting attached. i plan to let fully set then use BAL single part on top. not ideal, the alternative is scraping off the unibond, a retro task i would prefer to avoid. is this option acceptable? im using large ceramic tiles on multifinish plaster and 12.5 plaster board.

Hi mate, if you are using BAL single part, then you must remove back to the plaster. Before tiling you must prime the multifinish with Bal prime APD or suitable acrylic primer. Your tiles plus adhesive(usually 4kg per m2) should not exceed 20kg per m2.....Gaz

You really must remove the ready mixed addy first. try soaking it with water for a while then it should scrape off quite easily.

Or with steam stripper...gently not to remove the skim. If the skim coat is removed without damage to plasterboard, you then have 32kg per m2 including adhesive....Gaz

its multifinish on one wall and plas board on the other, i will remove adhesive from the plaster wall, just tried - not too bad, and fit new plaster board. the all-in-one ready mix seemed a great option, must have been the bright colours on the tub that got me.
