just used this again today. absolutley ace gear to use and brilliant coverage with 10mm square notch trowel. just a shame it cost me £35 a bag from ctd

What type of job was it? I'm thinking that X7+ would "suffice" on 90% of all regular jobs, and it's cheaper and covers more m2 per kg.

I know I've said it before, but if you're tiling floors, consider trying a euro notch trowel. They use slightly less adhesive than a 10mm square notched trowel, but they achieve a much better back coverage.

it was chipboard floor overboarded with 12mm ply. probably a bit overkill but better safe than sorry

they were 450x330 ceramics. ctd are pretty expensive when you first use them though. wanted £22.50 + vat for white rapid set. pci i think but seemed pretty steep with nicobond next door selling white rapid flexi for £13 inc vat

in a local tile shop and they are selling ardex gear - is it any good or are only some of the products good - i use bal blue star,bal flexi grout and nanolight for floors and porcelain - any comparisons with ardex gear?

i noticed you are in leeds.......I'm not sure but i am positive the northern branches of ctd are selling the 7001 for £19.95 + vat......

Plus once you get better discounts it is only £26 ish anyway and is alot cheaper than 2 part stuff......

Make sure to check the coverage of the adhesives. Many cheaper brands have quite poor meterage per kg compared to more expensive ones. One example is Casco (a brand from Akzo Nobel of the Netherlands). They're cheap per bag, but not so when it comes to coverage per kg. Ardex cost almost the double per bag, but has about twice as good coverage, as well as being of better quality. The total cost is thus about the same, though Ardex looks much more expensive at first glance.

No idea where you can buy them in the UK, sorry. Maybe someone else on the forum knows.

You would probaly find that an 8mm trowel would have given full coverage with those size tiles as well. You only need to go up to 10mm if the backs are heavily profiled - sez Ardex!

Or if there's a gradient towards the drain, and the tiles are fairly large. I'm doing a bathroom floor tomorrow where there is a 1-2% gradient and the main tiles are something like 30x30. The tiles around the drain are about 10x10, as the gradient is a bit bigger there. I'll use a euro notch trowel for that, which is about the equivialent of 9-10 mm square notched. I could use an 8mm trowel, but a slightly thicker bed will guarantee coverage.
