Hello all. Could anyone out there with experience of 2 part/epoxy/latex grout advise me on the pros and cons. They may be the same thing for all I know!
Just for some background - I'm due to tile a small bathroom one wall of which will be tiled with honed and filled travertine. As this is the wall which will be housing the bath/shower screen my client seems to think that normal grout will not suffice. The tiles will be fixed on wbp plywood which will be primed with a suitable primer(not pva!). I must admit I have never used anything other than normal grout in showers and I have never had any problems in 12 years but that doesn't mean the client is wrong.
Any thoughts guys?

I wouldn't use an epoxy on trav. Epoxy is more for swimming pools and food prep areas in commercial kitchens where food scrapes and acids will eat normal grout away. You could also look at epoxy as a 2 part as well so esentially the same thing.

You could however use a latex admix for your trav job something like

LATICRETE 1777 Coloured Latex Grout Admix makes a
strong, flexible hard, uniform coloured grout for all types of
ceramic tile, brick, marble, natural stone and agglomerate

I would also tank the ply with a membrane.......not really suitable substrate for a shower without tanking it......

Dave - is there any chance you could give me some more info about the membrane eg. where I can get some, how it's fixed etc. Any more info would be much appreciated.

I use schluters kerdi....and there is also durabase from wetdecs....

Yep MAPEI Gets my thumbs up too

doesn't have the market share Down here though and is still a little pricey (NOT FOR ME BUT MY CLIENTS) high quality products though and I use them when I can

I said it earlier in the post and I can only re-iterate: If you are going to use Mapei, Keracolour FF is better for limestone!!! You get a longer working time, It's a smoother grout and the Ph factor is lower as well
