| Porcelain tiles | | Hi all,
This is my first post.
I am retiling a bathroom, and the client has bought large porcelain tiles.
I have read other comments, and see I need to prime the walls with good quality primer and used cement based adhesive.
The walls are made of a combination of plasterboard and plywood (marine ply in the shower area). I cannot tank as client won't pay for this.
If I prime all the walls well and put in loads more nails into the plasterboard to secure it better do you think this will suffice (was a new build and I think they budgeted on the nails front!)
All advices greatfully received.

| Re: Porcelain tiles | | Hi ferdon welcome to the forums. The plasterboard isn't your problem, it's the ply you should be worried about. If your client won't allow you to tank the ply, you can be sure as shootin' that his expensive porcelain tiles will fall off at sometime or other.
Put drywall screws into the platerboard as well, that will suffice.
You will need to prime the plasterboard anyway if you use cement adhesive but really you will need to do something with the ply in the shower!
P.S. Would you like to introduce yourself in the New Members forum too and tell us a bit about yourself. Cheers. |

Have a look through the different tanking kits on the market and follow the instructions of the chooses kit.
There is quite a few diferent ways of tanking, depending on the make you choose, but they all do the same thing really. | | |

Being marine ply means the adhesives used to manufacture it are much more resistant to delamination than "normal" ply but as it is wood, it will still "move". Not good for tiling as you know. |
