Hi all, I'm currently tiling part time just for friends/family etc after completing a course a while ago. I'm very pleased with the tiling I've done so far but now have a job I'm a little nervous about... my parents bathroom!
Its currently tiled completey with 6x6 tiles, which I've stated many times I'd like to rip off and start from scratch but they really don't want the mess etc.. I've told them about problems with depth/door frames but they just want to go with it.
I was told on the course if you really must tile on tiles score them 1st, any tips on this or is it just get cracking with a stanley blade?
Also the new tiles are 400x300 ceramics can I use Bal blue star or do I have to use rapidset?

400 x 300's...get them old tiles pulled off........You are the fixer and need to stand your ground and say NO!! it has to be done this way..........much better job and you can never trust an existing tiled wall will support the new ones........

rub the tiles up with a carbarundum stone this will score the surface then flat the walls out with a cement based spf adhesive and leave it for 24 hours then tile it as normal

Personally wouldn`t score them, just make sure they`re well stuck, give em` a clean then use a good adhesive....however...they are fairly big tiles so if possible try and persuade the removal of the original tiles.

Nah, for fixing up large tiles ontop of old tiles in my view is just asking for problems, rip'em off and start afresh.

if firmly bonded clean them up then use Keraflex Maxi a highly modified S1 deformable single part cement based adhesive. Cement based adhesives dry by hydraulic means therefore do not need to lose moisture to develop adhesion. You will find that Blue Star, as with most other good quality adhesives will take absolutely ages to dry out. The cheapo adhesives take even longer!!!!!!

If you feel strongly that the tiles need to come off I agree with Dave............be forceful and arcy!!!!
