Default Nomoreply - which adhesive & screws?!?!?!?

Afternoon,

Just wondering if I have to use the nomoreply branded adhesive and screws or is there a cheaper option out there? Can I use, say, no more nails adhesive and plasterboard screws?

If it helps I've got 18mm chipboard and I'll be adding 6mm nomoreply then Ditra matting, underfloor heating and then 12mm limestone.

Cheers

Rob

I know it says no more ply but honestly because you are using an uncoupling membrane it would be far more sturdy, cheaper and easier for you if you used 6 or 9mm ply m8

Hmmm...interesting....well I'm only needing about 3 m2 of nomoreply and I also gather its better for the underfloor heating due to reflecting the heat back into the room....unless I made that bit up!??!?! So it's not going to cost too much more.
Obviously my main issue is keeping the floor level as low as possible which is why I went for nomoreply due to it being sturdier than thicker ply....unless I also made that bit up too!

Does 6mm no more ply add any strength to a floor? Not sure myself.

Surely it must be better than 18mm of chipboard which is nailed down....for an extra £30 I might as well screw down 6mm of nomoreply which should help in any movement and also aid in the reflection of the heat into the tiles and not downstairs.

Unfortunately, I have never used no more ply as I am not able to get it where I am but i have used 6 mm hardiebacke which is a similar thing. The reason 18mm ply is normally specified is to add rigidity to the timber floor to reduce movement. if the floor is absolutley solid then you can use other substances instead. if the floor IS solid, why don't you use a "proper" insulating board like Wedi or other such thermal boards, these are from about 4mm upwards and will make the underfloor heating much more efficient. Incidently, if it was me, I would put the Ditra over the top of the heaters, not underneath.

Just spoke to a supplier of Wedi and they would recommend 12.5mm Wedi due to the tiles I'm using...this causes problems because it adds a bigger depth.

the 6mm no more ply is supposed to be equivalent to 12mm ply. the boards are really sturdy. use any screws with it but i would use no more ply adhesive. just dont get any on your hands. i personally think its better than hardibacker and you can tile on it straight away.

Hang on you have 3m2 of floor and you are going to put no more stuff on it, that will give you at least 4 points of weakness over 18mm chipboard. You will need to cross the joints on the chipboard which makes this no more stuff idea more expensive as you will be looking at 4+ boards.

Forget £30 if your going to do it right m8

And this no more stuff doesnt reflect heat

the no more ply doesnt reflect as much heat as insulated backerboards but its better than ply.

Tiler...I'm a bit confused by what your saying...so you think I should forget about putting the nomoreply down and go straight on with the tiles?
